Hello from the Darkside |
|
And yes I do have cookies lol
I am Saahirah Rayvn, Rayvn, Ruby Rose or just plain Lisa. Most of my friends and peers call me Raven because they either can't remember my muggle name Lisa, or can't pronounce Saahirah. I started learning caberet bellydance about 4 years ago. Within the first 6 or so months I started dabbling in Gothic fusion and sword dance - but when you are goth you tend to dance abit differently to everyone else anyway. As I progressed I started to take my gothic bellydance quite seriously and late 2006 I decided I wanted to specialise in Gothic fusion and sword dance. I also took up tribal bellydance classes soon after that while still learning caberet. Tribal has definatly given my style of gothic fusion the substance and strength it was lacking. I've also developed the courage to dance to my own tune and developing my own bellydance style completely unique to me. I break alot of rules in my dancing - but keep true to the essential basics of technique.
I'm abit of a moonlighter and free spirit - I pretty much travel around getting tuition for a few months here and there with dancers I admire. I do have one "old sock" teacher though and thats my tribal teacher,Dee. Another favourite teacher of mine is Sharon from the academy and I have rejoined her classes for a couple of terms before they start preparing for the extrav.
Just this year I have given in to several requests and have started teaching Gothic Fusion Bellydance. I also run monthly workshops over the Northside in Gothic bellydance and sword dance. I also perform regulary everywhere but normal bellydance haunts - I do the tattoos shows, hot rod events, Corporate functions, gothic nightclubs and events, Themed parties - Anywhere that wants an "unusual" bellydancer. Just recently I was proud to be one of the lead dancers in a music filmclip for hip hop artist Canaxe - and no I wasnt dancing hip hop. They wanted a representation of the gothic subculture.
Eventhough I specialise in a fusion of Bellydance - I am still passionate in upholding the integrity and key elements important in the beauty of Bellydance. I also feel very strongly that you need to continue to learn traditional forms of bellydance so you have a strong technical base from which to draw from.

Thankyou Zemira. After I posted my introduction - I realised that as usual I had written a small novel compared to everyone else.

That's OK. One of the reasons for this forum being created was for us all to be able to get to know one another. So your post was great..
