MUSIC for beginners |
|
I am sure many will find that their teacher is very helpful in recommending music. The Dahlal.com website also has a good range of recommendations. If you have trouble finding music in Brisbane (and Rocking Horse in the city usually has a good range) I can recommend the MAQAM music website which is USA based. I have ordered and received quite a few CDs from them at very good prices (watch out for the sales).
Beware of a CD called "Authentic BellyDance Music" ... it's dreadful. Also, some companies have the nasty habit of re-issuing a CD with a new cover and title, but with the same songs on it. My poor husband was caught out with this trick, trying to buy me some music, but I already had the exact same songs on a CD with a totally different cover and name to the one he brought home.
My personal favourites are: Bellydance Superstars Vol1. A good range of folky to modern and some great drum solos. Hossam Ramzy Baladi Plus .. v.nice folky good for Saidi or Tribal Style. The early CDs by Solace are wonderful - v.tribal and slightly goth feel to their music ... probably have to buy them on Internet because I have never seen them in Brisbane.
Cheers, Mala Karim
