Bellydance Saved my Life |
|
Mala Karim here again. I actually had a long term relationship with a man who could not decide between me and another woman. I was so addicted to the guy that I spent nights at home in case he was able to visit me. (yes, I can't believe I was that stupid). After it ended, and I had some dire nights with a bottle or two of rum!! I started going to bellydance. I was at a point in my life where I would go to work, come home, eat, go to bed .. over and over, every day. And so I went to dance class to get me out of the house once a week. It helped me to come back to myself, helped me to be confident about myself again. That man had reduced me to nothing waiting for him. When I started to dance, I was strong and capable and attention was on me. I just felt so good about who I was when I danced.
I often say to friends, "You know, I used to bellydance ... but now, I AM A bellydancer."
It has stopped being a thing that I do, and has become part of who and what I AM today.
Cheers, Mala Karim.

Hi Mala Karim It was so good to hear about your introduction to Bellydance and how it changed your life I have so many girls in my class that have taken up bellydancing because of some crisis in their life and found a new confidence in themselves. I wonder if it is the sisterhood of Bellydance or if it happens in all forms of dance. One of my girls wrote "Thankyou for such a precious gift I have found part of me I didnt Know was Missing" It is exciting watching everybody grow as they find a confidence in themselves. Its great to hear of other inspiring stories about belly dance.I find that to belly dance is a spiritual release, a way to bring joy to myself & others. It gives me a way to express my inner self in a world that I find judgemental & a bit threatening. You are right Mala, Belly dancing is who & what you are, a vital part of your life. Sabihah
